Small is BIG!

Accessories. So what exactly are they?

A plethora of different material that collectively sum up a simple outfit? Not exactly. Clothing may make up a majority of an outfit, but accessories are more significant to an outfit than you may think. As Giorgio Armani once said, “Accessories are important and becoming more and more important every day”. It is a known fact that these items define occasion, they define style but most importantly, they define you.

For example, let’s take a really basic outfit; a white button up shirt and a pair of fitted, straight legged jeans in a dark denim wash. Using accessories and only accessories, you can take this standard outfit through three different occasions. For a day of shopping and lunch with the girls, you can accessorize with bold, colourful, statement jewelry, a cross body bag and a pair of leather boots. Top off your fun look with a floppy straw hat and trendy sunglasses. To create an ensemble appropriate for Mufti days at school, you can wear a black pair of pumps, a funky necklace and a leather handbag in a neutral colour.

For the guys, a simple pair of denims with a white tshirt. For a casual look, this outfit can be accessorized with a buckled belt and white moccasin shoes or topped off with a neutral linen jacket. For the evening out with a pretty girl, smart black brogue shoes and a blazer of your choice.

A simple change of accessories can take an outfit from preppy to punk, glam to trendy, ghetto-fabulous to quirky and everything in between.

Now folks, it goes without saying there’s always a catch! Fashion is all about learning, experience, trial and error and to dare. Here are a few tips;

  1. Don’t Overmatch-coordination is key, too much of the same shade doesn’t work.

  2. Stay True to Your Style-dress for the occasion.

  3. Go from Boring to Fab-accessorizing with a few key pieces, definitely completes your outfit.

The bottom line is you’ve got to be comfortable in your own skin. Food for thought, fashion is not just apparel and accessories; it transcends the entire spectrum of lifestyle, cuisine, cars, furniture, vacation and technology. The list is endless.

Accessories; they are exactly what you are.

Mistle-Toes...

Have you ever asked yourself, “How should I paint my nails this Christmas?” Well, I’ve decided to write about some ‘how-to’ steps on different nail art ideas. Below are a two of my favorite festive season nail arts. Simple yet oh-so-Fabu!

The Classic Santa Hat!

  1. Paint two coats of Red Glittery Nail Polish on the tip of each nail, except from the ring fingers.

  1. Paint a strip of White Nail Polish on the tip of the ring finger nails. For this manicure’s signature style, draw a small Santa Clause hat above the white strip of nail polish.

A Santa in Disguise!

  1. Paint all finger nails Red, apart from the index fingers and pinkies. Then, paint the index fingers and pinkies using Silver Nail Polish.

  1. Once the nail polish has dried, draw a Santa Clause hat on the pinkies, a Santa Clause face on the ring fingers, his body with a belt on the middle fingers and his legs and boots on the index fingers. Refer to the picture for further help.

  1. Apply one coat of Top Coat over your nails and enjoy a day filled with compliments!

High Heels and Bad Health...

by Taryn Mondon on 22/02/2014

They come in all shapes and sizes, while the many different colours just seem to catch our eyes. They make our legs look incredibly leaner and longer, but are looks all that? ‘Health’ is a word that can be interpreted in two ways; either being fit and staying in shape or maintaining healthy organs in order to prevent sicknesses and lead a happy, long life.

Stilettos affect many different parts of the body in many different ways:

Feet:

  • They act like springs to your body and distribute your weight, almost like shock absorbers. When these engineering marvels are packed into your high heels, it shifts much of your weight onto the balls of your feet and your delicate toes, causing pain.

Ankles and Calves:

  • They force your ankles to bend forward, which could restrict circulation to your lower limbs. They also stiffen your tendons, anchoring your calf muscles to your heels and causing your calves to clump up, which results in more pain.

Back:

  • They make you sashay, swaying your spine in an unnatural way and causing a sore lower back. Result: PAIN!

However, with every downside there are, of course, benefits. High heels make you look tall, giving you that straight, skyscraper-like posture, while they definitely complement and add style to any outfit. For instance, box or conical heels go with corporate ensembles, pencil heels make minis or tunics more striking and platform heels go well with trousers or jeans. The one thing I appreciate about heels is that they enhance my confidence. They make a woman seem more assertive, which draws favourable attention, making her feel even better about how she looks.

Ladies, I am not trying to persuade you to throw out every possible high heel you have ever owned and have stacked on that shoe rack of yours! I am merely advising to save your spikes for a special night out and to never walk around in them for more than a few hours at a time. These gorgeous ‘monsters’ can affect your body in the future when worn constantly. Too much of anything is never good!
