"You are not born for yourself but for the world."

Little People with Big Hearts...

This school has always been well known for its diversity in race and culture. The undeniable truth is that although we all have different skin tones we can still get along. One thing stands alone for every individual in our school and that’s our Spirit!

Although we might not always see it as our strongest point it is that Spirit that allows us to care. If we all just take a moment and truly looked intently around ourselves we’d find ourselves looking at many different spirits and no one alike. Those kind spirits whose unquestionable generosity ruffle through their wallets for spare change in order to make a huge difference in someone else’s life in the dinner queue. Those fearless spirits who shoot for victory representing our school during intense competitions. Even the competition for Head Boy and Head Girl showed a dedicated spirit which spoke out and was heard throughout the crowd.

Whether it is you or I just crossing by each other’s path each and every day we all have that one spirit that differentiates us from the rest. You may think that some are more superior to the others but really it’s the smallest act that holds a greater significance. Just the other day I ran into a group of girls who described me as the ‘Kind Girl’. I was puzzled and asked why I deserved such a title? And they replied ‘because when we needed help you rescued us’. Their faces all portrayed a genuine smile and it hit me truly that I didn’t know them at all.

The point I am trying to make is how to make a difference mindless of its size because for someone else it means much more if you’re able to make them smile. So students of the ISS remember when you walk down those school steps or cross that basketball court try if possible to do one selfless act. It might not change the course of history but it will definitely change that of a child’s life!

47 As to Make the World Title...

by Yazmeen George on 22/02/2014

Where exams are concerned students naturally tend to aim for the highest possible results that they can achieve. Both IGCSE and A-level exams are crucial for every student looking to succeed in school and in life.

At the end of the day the students who work the hardest are usually rewarded. One recent student to make the international news, Haroon Tariq from Pakistan, has been recognised for being exemplary after receiving not 10, not even 20 but 47 As in total for both IGCSE and A level exams from the University of Cambridge International Exams. Not only has he been rewarded for achieving the best results but he also went on to break the current world record which had originally been 28 As held by another student from Pakistan called Zohaid Asad.

During a short three year span of studies Haroon Tariq managed to study up to 50 different subjects at O-level and A-level. “Obtaining these 47 As was not easy” he stated, “I also had to study various languages from Spanish to French”. Some of his subjects also included Human and Social Biology, Islamic Religion and Culture, Physics, Chemistry and Global Development. “Thanks to my teachers guidance I was able to achieve these remarkable scores” he said adding that all his focus went straight to his studies.

Head Principal of the Froebel’s International School, Shahmina Kamal, also remarked that “she felt honored to be instrumental in shaping a competent youngster for tomorrow’s Pakistan. Surely enough, we have students setting world records for academic excellence.”

Thanks to Haroon’s great academic achievements Pakistan has been placed in the global spotlight. It was clear to see that this student was more than your average normal child but the true definition of a genius!

The reason why I am writing about this story in student life is that we currently have students in Year 11, 12 and 13 studying for their IGCSEs and A-Levels and hopefully this will inspire them to achieve their best in the summer with a little bit of hard work and dedication. Who knows… hopefully the world will see more of these student success stories in the future and your never know one might happen to be home grown from our very own International School of Seychelles.
